NFL linebacker Ryan Kerrigan's mission to help children in need

Patrick Ryan Kerrigan is an NFL linebacker who plays for the Washington Redskins. During his last season in college, he was awarded the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year. After being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, he has proven to be a quality defenseman in the professional league.

While it seems far-fetched to ever think of Kerrigan being named league Most Valuable Player, there is an arena where he has shown to be invaluable: philanthropy.

Back in 2013, he established the Blitz for the Better Foundation to provide aid, opportunities, daily encouragement, life-changing experiences, and other resources to children from the Greater Washington D.C. area who are in need, particularly those whose are gravely ill, physically challenged, and with special needs.

Aside from honing his skills on the field, Kerrigan also uses his time to develop programs, such as the Kerrigan’s Korners, where hospitalized kids can gain access to technology and other facilities for relaxation and communication, Reindeer Rush, a Christmas program for families, and the annual fundraiser Celebrity Waiter Night, where celebrities or professional football players serve restaurant patrons.

Kerrigan has also expanded his reach with the Blitz for the Better Foundation extending its services to different other locations, including Richmond, Virginia.
